Jewelry Design: From Basic to Advanced Creations

Designed for all levels of jewelry enthusiasts, students in this course will work at their own pace to create original jewelry pieces. Techniques covered include sawing, filing, forming, joining, soldering, annealing, filing shapes, ring sizing, sanding, wax carving, joining of metals, embossing techniques on metal, polishing, texturing metal and stone setting. Students will develop ideas for creating jewelry, such as earrings, necklaces, bracelets and chains. Beginners will start by making a plain, sterling silver ring or one set with a gemstone. Technical problem solving, mastering new skills, and instilling confidence and competency will be emphasized. Individual assistance from the instructor will be given throughout the course.

  • Effective Sunday, August 1, 2021, every member of the SVA campus community must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and provide a copy of their vaccination record unless they meet specific criteria. Within 48 hours of registration for your course(s), you will receive an email with further instructions, sent to your email address.

    You must register at least one week in advance of the start date of your course(s) to ensure your vaccination card is approved prior to your first class session. If you have not been approved for entry, you will not be permitted to access campus facilities.

    Forms for requesting a medical or religious exemption from SVA’s vaccination policy may be found here. All students who receive an exemption are required to comply with regular testing and other policies, which may lengthen the time it takes to get approved for entry to SVA's buildings.

    At this time, masks will be required on campus for the fall 2021 semester.

    Failure to adhere to these policies in a timely manner is not grounds for a refund.
