During this course we will investigate how gender-based violence, especially lethal force, is depicted in visual media of various kinds. With a feminist approach, we dive into the course starting from Edgar Allan Poe with his tropes of the female body, passing through the lack of female agency proposed in Laura Mulvey's seminal work, and onward engaging with new theories of how female corpses are depicted in a fetishized and glamorized way in works by Pinedo, Tait, and others. Together, we build and create a counter-narrative as a final project that can undermine the brutality of this phenomenon without missing the importance of showing it.
