SVA's Women in Animation Student Chapter Host Panel on Breaking into TV&Film and Gender Bias
Women in Animation’s (WIA) New York Chapter and the School of Visual Art’s WIA Student Chapter was happy to host a panel with WIA Co-President Marge Dean (GM for Stoopid Buddy), Mark Osborne (Director of "The Little Prince" and more), Sarah Ball (Director of "Chuggington" and "Bob the Builder" and more), and Cecila Puglesi (Director of "Shift").
The panelists gave advice on the difficulties of pursuing a career as an animation director and how to overcome them while staying true to yourself. A Q&A followed the panel, giving students and other WIA members in attendance the opportunity to ask questions about the animation industry in both TV and film, as well as addressing the bias against women in a leadership role. Marge Dean spoke about how everyone benefits from more diverse stories created by diverse studios. WIA aims to achieve a 50/50 male/female ratio in the animation industry by 2025.
SVA is sponsoring WIA student memberships for currently enrolled students. Talk to the SVA WIA Student Chapter for more information!
