MA Curatorial Practice presents a talk with New York-based photographer Richard Barnes, whose work has been shown in solo exhibitions and delivered lectures all over the United States. Barnes was a recipient of the Rome Prize 2005-2006 and his photographs of the cabin of Ted Kaczynski, aka the “Unabomber,” were featured in the 2006 Whitney Biennial and awarded the Alfred Eisenstadt Award for Photography. He was the 2009 recipient of the Sidman Fellow for the Arts from the Institute for the Humanities at the University of Michigan. In 2010 he completed a residency from Lightwork/Syracuse University. A monograph of his work entitled Animal Logic, published in 2009, has received favorable reviews and was included in the American Institute of Graphic Arts juried competition/exhibition “50 Books/50 Covers” in 2010.

MA Curatorial Practice presents a talk with Anselm Franke about new paradigms for curating historical archives and narratives today. A new understanding of origin stories and their functions in enacting symbolic universes is a crucial concern for curating archives and beyond. Franke will touch on these ideas in relation to some of his major exhibitions.

BFA Visual & Critical Studies and the Honors Program present a talk with Peruvian professor Renzo Aroni on the role of music during the massive Indigenous peasant mobilization from the southern Peruvian Andes to Lima against President Dina Boluarte and her authoritarian government from late 2022 to early 2023. Born in Lima and raised in the Peruvian highland region of Ayacucho, Dr. Renzo Aroni is a historian of modern Latin America. His research experience and current interest include social movements, revolutions, indigenous peoples and human rights in Latin America, particularly at their intersection with culture, memory and political violence.

MPS Digital Photography presents a talk with New York City-based professional photographer, teacher, lecturer, author and curator Harvey Stein, part of its i3: Images, Ideas, Inspiration lecture series. Stein is a long-time faculty member at the International Center of Photography and also teaches at the Los Angeles Center of Photography. He has conducted travel photo workshops in Europe, Mexico, South America, Vietnam, India and China for over two decades. He has had 91 solo exhibitions, has participated in over 170 group shows and is included in 60 permanent collections. Stein’s tenth and most recent book, Coney Island People 50 Years, was published in 2022.

BFA Animation presents The Undies, a three-hour screening event showcasing finished films created during the previous year by underclass students. As per tradition, the first-year class is invited to participate on the judging panel for the 2023 Undies Awards and all audience members will have a chance to vote on the 2023 Undies Audience Choice Award winner.

MFA Photography, Video and Related Media present a talk with Oluremi C. Onabanjo, scholar and associate curator in the Department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, where she serves as co-chair of the Early Modern Working Group. Onabanjo was a curatorial team member for the 8th Triennial of Photography Hamburg (2022) and the director of exhibitions and collections for the Walther Collection. She lectures internationally on photography and curatorial practice and her writing appears in Aperture, The New Yorker, Revista ZUM, Tate, Etc., as well as publications by The Art Institute of Chicago, The Museum of Modern Art, the RISD Museum and the Studio Museum in Harlem.

Fall kicks into high gear at the College with multiple exhibition openings, film and animation screenings and a slew of expert-led talks on history, AI and activism.
