SVACE: Who is the creative person who will participate in "Housebound Photo Hunt?”

SR: Housebound Photo Hunt is for people interested in exploring and photographing their homes with “fresh eyes.” They could be portrait photographers wanting to try something new or landscape painters escaping the cold. I want this to be a unique event that allows each of us to gain new insights about where and how we live, and the many ways that can be interpreted, while having a good time together.

After introductions and some of the examples mentioned above, I will introduce some prompts meant to get everyone looking around their homes for similar things that might be interpreted in unique ways, or perhaps more similarly. For example: security, frustration, chaos, freedom, etc.

I always speak constructively with my students about what makes a strong photograph and how each of us can express ourselves and our points of view more directly. Garry Winogrand once said, “I photograph to find out what something will look like photographed.” I like taking this one step further, to say photographs also help me to realize what I think about what just happened. This has been my approach to photographing for a long time and I look forward to sharing that approach with people during Housebound Photo Hunt.
