"Lapin!" the audience screamed at the top of their lungs every time a rabbit appeared on screen as part of the signature film for the Annecy International Animation Festival. This is one of many fun traditions at this festival in southeastern France and this year was no different. The energy of the room was full of passion and excitement from animation lovers from across the world, for whom Annecy International Animation Festival is the place to be.

As in years past, SVA had a great presence at Annecy, which in 2019 drew some 12,300 attendees from 92 countries. The SVA team in attendance included: Hsiang Chin Moe (MFA 2008 Computer Art), during her transition from director of operations at MFA Computer Arts to chair of BFA Animation; Angie Wojak (BFA 1990 Media Arts), director of SVA Career Development; Mark Minnig, director of operations and Sam Lee, assistant manager of BFA Animation; Angelica Vergel, assistant to the chair of MFA Computer Arts; and, from BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects, Brian Frey, director of operations, Deanna Demaglie (BFA 2013 Animation), administrative assistant, and Alexandra Barksy (MFA 2018 Visual Narrative; BFA 2013 Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects), special project coordinator. The College's three animation represented SVA together during Mifa (the international animation film market), where the team got to meet with over 4,100 industry professionals and students.

"It's an incredible feeling to connect with young talents at the booth, especially when SVA's reputation precedes itself with many award-winning films," Vergel said. "People just walk up, point at our posters and say 'I know that film!'"
