The latest installment in SVA's Joes@Moe's video series finds host and alumnus Zipeng Zhu (BFA 2013 Design) in conversation with Maria McCune, associate director of Student Affairs, who is well known for her vast contributions to student activities and events all around SVA.
Currently celebrating her 10th year at SVA, McCune has helped to shape the lives and experiences of many students in a positive way. From leading the orientation committee—through which, during the fall and spring orientations, she is in charge of the planning process for over 70 events total—to overseeing SVA Student Engagement and Leadership, McCune works to make sure SVA feels like home for students, from their first year through graduation. She advises students participating in all sorts of school events, such as the College's many clubs, its VASA student government and Visual Opinion. In 2013, she won a Distinguished Staff Award in recognition for her efforts and enthusiasm.
In McCune's conversation with Zipeng, she says, "I've been very proud of the work that I do here to continue to offer civic engagement opportunities to our students. I try to host voter registration drives, and voter education programs. I think it's important that our students not only succeed here at SVA, but also develop skills for succeeding after, including being productive members of their society."
