SVA Alumnus Shubhashish Bhutiani’s Debut Feature to Premiere at 2016 Venice Film Festival

Shubhashish Bhutiani‘’ feature film, Mukti Bhawan (Hotel Salvation) (watch a trailer below), is premiering at the 2016 Venice Film Festival on Friday, September 2. From Red Carpet Moving Pictures: “Faced with his father’s untimely and bizarre demand to go and die in the holy city of Varanasi and attain Salvation, a son is left with no choice but to embark on this journey.” The film was was developed through the Biennale College, which provides a team of expert advisors who work with chosen filmmakers through a series a workshops.

Bhutiani’s short film, Kush, which was created during his time at SVA, won Outstanding Film, Outstanding Achievement in Directing, and Outstanding Achievement in Editing at the 24th Annual Dusty Film & Animation Festival. It then went on to win the Orizzonti Award for Best Short Film at the 2013 Venice Film Festival, and was shortlisted for the Oscars in 2014. Watch the trailer below:
