JOB TITLE: Senior Systems Administrator, Mac

 

DEPARTMENT: BFA Computer Art, Animation, and Visual Effects

 

REPORTS TO: Senior Systems Director

 

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Mac Senior Systems Administrator assumes a senior role leading projects and taking responsibility for the overall health and functionality of Mac systems for the BFA Computer Art department. In addition to assisting, installing, maintaining, and departmental hardware and software and assisting students, faculty and staff, the Mac Senior Systems Administrator is expected to work with the Senior Systems Director to assess the big picture view of the Mac systems.

 

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

●    Work with other Systems Administrators on the maintenance, installation and continuous operation of all software, hardware and networks, on both PC and MAC platforms

●    Maintain Mac servers and network infrastructure

●    Oversee 7 Mac computer labs (150 workstations)

●    Provide Tier 2, 3 expert-level support for students, faculty and staff on macOS and iOS. Troubleshoot Mac issues to completion, interface with vendors and technical support as needed, facilitate Apple hardware repairs. Lead Mac workshops for student employees and staff. Supervise student employees with tasks as needed

●    Manage and maintain school-year macOS software deployments via Jamf Pro

●    Provide macOS support for specialty studio spaces (Green Screen Studio, Color

Grading Suite, Sound Mixing Room, Conference Room)

●    Assume a proactive role in identifying new initiatives and technological improvements via online research and conferences. Research, test, and green-light Mac software and hardware in order to make informed purchases and production decisions, assisting the Senior Systems Director on strategic planning and growth

●    Maintain Mac-related hardware and software inventory, maintain proper documentation.

●    Attend weekly administration/systems staff meetings

●    Maintain a good working relationship with SVA IT department for troubleshooting and to ensure security and privacy compliance

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS

●    Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s or Bachelor’s in Computer Science or a related field preferred

●    Extensive knowledge of macOS and Apple hardware, PC proficiency

●    Extensive experience with large-scale hardware/software deployments using Jamf Pro

●    Knowledge of Windows, Mac OS system configuration, networking

●    Strong social and communication skills. Attention to detail

●    Understanding of CG, VFX and render pipelines preferred

●    Experience in a similar role in an animation, film, post-production studio or higher education environment preferred
