This one-day workshop will focus on the art of Japanese stab binding-a creative stitching pattern used to bind together multiple single sheets of paper in a decorative and strong way. We will begin with a four-hole stitch and then progress to more complex patterns such as hemp leaf, tortoiseshell and Kangxi. Participants complete two finished books to use as notebooks, sketchbooks, or as gifts. All materials and tools are provided. No prior bookmaking experience is required.
Access to the printshop is only available during class hours. This course is held on campus at SVA.
