Each year, SVA Student Health and Counseling and Student Affairs host the HOPE Art Competition, a call for posters that encourage everyone at SVA to make use of mental-health services and life-saving tools. The competition is open to all undergraduate and graduate students, and generates a diverse set of submissions that represents the supportive and caring community at SVA. In previous years, themes have included healing as a community (2021), Mr. Rogers quotes (2020) and The Samaritans organization (2018). This year’s theme was suicide prevention and students were invited to submit artwork representing the idea that suicide prevention begins with everyone.

Out of the 88 students who submitted artwork this year, 13 finalists were selected for the Grand Prize and Fan Favorite categories, with the winners announced at last week’s reception for the exhibition. Congratulations to the Fan Favorite winner Emi Wong (BFA Illustration) and Grand Prize winner Zaine Kent (BFA Animation)! The finalists’ prizes were sponsored by the SVA Campus Store.

“Together, We Can Find HOPE” is on view through Wednesday, February 22, at the SVA Flatiron Windows, 133/141 West 21st Street, and visible from the sidewalk. Here’s a look at some of the competition finalists and winners.
