The School of Visual Arts (SVA) Masters in Branding Program is excited to announce both an onsite and online offering this upcoming 2021/2022 academic year, allowing students to choose how they earn their degree. These two tracks will be simultaneous and synchronous, providing identical education in faculty, courses, assignments, workshops, real-world clients and professional mentorship. The application deadline to join the class of 2022 has been extended to July 31, 2021 for this distinct opportunity. For more information visit branding.sva.edu.

The SVA Masters in Branding is a full-time one-year degree program structured with working professionals in mind. Classes are held Monday through Friday 6:30-9:00pm EST, onsite and live-streamed. The two tracks are not interchangeable, and students will be committed to their chosen track once the academic year begins. All students will have the opportunity to present their thesis in person if they choose.

The SVA Masters in Branding Program is the world’s first and longest running graduate program of its kind, founded in 2010 by Debbie Millman and Steven Heller. Prior to 2020, the program was entirely onsite but quickly moved online in March 2020 in response to the global pandemic.

For Founder Debbie Millman the prospect of translating the program into a remote experience was initially unfathomable. “If you had asked me a year ago about creating an online version of the program, I would have laughed,” she said. “In a mere three days our entire program—twenty-seven students, more than ten faculty members and six courses—moved completely online. Despite transitioning during a pandemic, civil rights uprising, and unemployment crisis, we were amazed and inspired by the remarkable work the students continually produced through the spring and summer semesters.”

“With this online offering, anyone anywhere in the world has the opportunity to participate in our internationally acclaimed program. Our school is about opening doors, not closing them,” Millman stated. “Over the past decade we have discovered and developed a generation of great brand builders. We want to continue to evolve that legacy, allowing more voices a platform to take a role in global conversations.”

The SVA Masters in Branding program has equipped over 300 students with the tools and skills needed to ensure success and longevity at top brands, agencies, and for some, creating companies of their own.

“Today, branding has become a profound manifestation of the human spirit. It is a necessity in today’s ever-changing world,” Millman said. “The condition of branding has always reflected the condition of our culture. It is up to us to seek to create a culture that reflects and honors the kind of world we want to live in together. We invite you to join us this year from wherever you call home.”
