Marks 10th Year SVA Showcases Emerging Artists During Miami Art Basel

November 30, 2017, Miami, FL—School of Visual Arts is pleased to participate in PULSE Miami Beach Art Fair (Booth S-219) for the third consecutive year and celebrate the College’s 10th year presenting its talented artists during Miami’s premiere art week.

Artists presented in this year’s booth include: Adam Cable (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Joey Gonnella (BFA Visual & Critical Studies), Audun Grimstad (MFA Illustration as Visual Essay), Andrew Jilka (MFA Fine Arts), Anders Jones (MFA Photography, Video and Related Media), Sanna Livia (BFA Illustration), Grace J. Park (BFA Fine Arts), Aya Rodriguez-Izumi (MFA Fine Arts), and Sinjin Strom (BFA Photography and Video).

“PULSE offers SVA the opportunity to present emerging artists to the international arts community,” says curator and SVA External Relations project manager Dan Halm. “We’re thrilled to be back this year with a new crop of artists that represent a high caliber of talent and highlight the College’s commitment to educating the next generation of innovative creators and thinkers.”

In addition to the SVA booth, SVA Galleries and PULSE will jointly present artist Aya Rodriguez-Izumi in Wish, a performance that will encourage viewers to have moments of reflection during the fair. Based off the communal Japanese tradition of the Ema – a wooden wishing plaque used in the Shinto and Buddhist tradition, onto which worshipers write prayers, wishes and gratitude – Wish will give visitors the opportunity to express adorn pink-stained plaques with their own hopes and dreams for the future. Each plaque will be hung on the tree adjacent to the booth, aiming to create an ever-expanding public offering of optimism in these uncertain times.

Visitors will have the opportunity to partake in Wish with the artist on:

• Thursday, December 7th during the Private Preview Brunch from 10am - 1pm and Young Collectors Cocktails at 5 - 7 pm
• Friday, December 8th, Saturday, December 9th from 10am - 12pm
• During all other times, Wish will be activated by visitors to PULSE.
