SVA Honorees Included in Forbes’ 2017 “30 Under 30” list

Jan 4, 2017, New York, NY—SVA BFA Design alumnus and faculty member Pablo Declan (2012) was included in Forbes' "30 Under 30" Art & Style list in its January 24, 2017 issue.

Declan came to SVA to study design via Spain, where his passion for graphic design, animation and illustration blossomed. In spring 2014 he founded Declan & Company with a focus on animation and graphic design to create distinctive visuals, tell stories and create experiences.

Over the course of his career, Declan’s work has been awarded and recognized by the Type Directors Club, Art Directors Club and The New York Times.

SVA MPS Digital Photography alumnus Tahir Carl Karmali (2015) was also named one to watch on Forbes' "30 Under 30" Art & Style list.

Karmali originally hails from Kenya and came to SVA to explore his interest in photography. At SVA Karmali honed his artistic practice of incorporating digital photography and portraiture with papermaking. His focus on portraiture depicting "outlier communities" affected by global economic political and social systems helps to highlight narratives from silenced communities.

Karmali has had exhibits throughout Africa, Europe, South America and in New York. He is also the creative director at limeSHIFT, a Brooklyn startup that helps companies boost their creative output working with employees to make office art installations.

The sixth annual list features 600 young innovators, entrepreneurs and leaders who are challenging the conventional wisdom and rewriting the rules for the next generation. The list includes 30 honorees in 20 categories. The honorees, all under 30 years old, were vetted by a panel of judges in their respective fields.
