Designed as a workshop, this course will explore all the stages of the animation process to create an animation portfolio. Using tablets and scanned drawings, we will begin with traditional drawn animation and the principles of animation alongside motion graphics created in Adobe After Effects and Photoshop. Combining these tools, we'll take a deep dive into walk cycles, character and storyboard, layout design, kinetic type, editing and animatics, animation timing, rigged character animation, acting lip sync, rotoscope, compositing, 3D camera animation, motion and camera tracking, color keying and visual effects. Through exercises and lectures, students will gain firsthand experience in how to animate and build animations designed to be showcased on an animation reel. Perfect for designers, illustrators, animators, producers, editors, and those looking to raise their skill level or add motion to their work, this intensive workshop teaches the stages and contemporary methods of the digital animation process.
PREREQUISITE: A basic drawing course and familiarity with the Macintosh computer.
NOTE: Students will need a drawing tablet (Wacom Bamboo, Intuos, or Cintiq is suggested). All students with an active registration in this course will be given free access to the Adobe Creative Cloud. This course is fully online and offered through synchronous sessions during the listed course hours.
