From social media platforms to keynote presentations, interactive media and video, digital storytelling allows creators to explore innovative ways to combine text, image, sound, video, interactivity, motion design and audience agency to design digital experiences. In this course students will experiment with contemporary digital storytelling techniques, such as vertical scrolling, motion comics and interactive storytelling through branching narratives. Examples of the various formats, styles and tools will be studied and analyzed. The fundamental elements of visual narrative and the art of crafting a solid story structure will be covered. Students will identify the best format and method for their own digital storytelling practice and examine how to use various online applications and tools to amplify their authorial voice. Students will work on producing a collection of digital short stories. Whether personal memoir, genre-bending fiction, nonfiction narratives, or poetic experimental works, storytellers of all backgrounds, visual languages and media are welcome.
NOTE: All students with an active registration in this course will be given access to the Adobe Creative Cloud. This course is fully online and offered through synchronous sessions during the listed course hours.
