Faculty
John Rea,
Executive creative director of digital marketing
This course is dedicated to one of the most in-demand disciplines in advertising today: Purposeful marketing-a strategic approach where brands align their core business objectives with meaningful causes, creating deeper connections with consumers beyond traditional transactional relationships. Brands like Patagonia, with its environmental activism; Dove's body positivity campaigns; and TOMS one-for-one model have demonstrated how integrating purpose can transform marketing from mere selling to real societal contribution. The course is designed for art directors, copywriters and designers to build portfolio pieces through cause-related ideas and digital activation strategies. Slide decks will explore digital ecosystems and visual thinking techniques, with a focus on developing portfolios that showcase integrated thinking and digital media expertise. Targeted digital campaigns can raise awareness and motivate change, as evidenced by the Cannes Advertising Festival's Health & Wellness Lion, where the majority of winning campaigns addressed accessibility, public health and climate issues. For designers and art directors, this course offers an opportunity to develop purposeful work that can enhance career prospects and create meaningful brand narratives. By the end of the course, participants will have a diverse portfolio that demonstrates integrated thinking, digital media expertise and a passion for purposeful advertising.
