For many filmmakers, short films are their entrance into the industry. What is it that makes a memorable short? How do we take a big idea and chisel it down to a moving and noteworthy 10 or 15 minutes? This course aims to answer these questions. Students will be immersed into the craft of the short film and develop a story premise, an outline and characters, and write a 10-to-15 page script. The goal is for students to leave the course with a screenplay that they are ready to shoot. Award-winning shorts will be analyzed and critiqued for inspiration and guidance on structure, story, and technique. This is a wonderful course for both established and emerging filmmakers.
