In this course students have the opportunity to study dramatic writing for the screen and collaborate with professional actors to write their original short screenplays. Students will be immersed in the craft of short filmmaking and will create a story premise, characters, an outline and a first draft. Subsequent drafts will then be developed with actors who will read, improv and explore characters and plot with each writer. Students and actors will discuss how to craft dimensional characters on the page and memorable performances on screen. By the end of the course, students will have a solid understanding of this collaboration in the filmmaking process, a knowledge of how an actor approaches creating a character, and a fully developed short screenplay ready for production.
Note: This course is held on campus at SVA.
