Students in this workshop will get hands-on experience with cyanotype printing. This alternative, chemical photographic process uses UV light exposure to develop characteristically blue images. We will begin with an introduction to the alternative process darkroom, the history of cyanotypes and printing digital negatives in the computer lab using transparency film. Students will then learn how to mix chemistry and print images using their digital negatives. Toning prints will be addressed.
Note: Please come to the first session with a digital, black-and-white file that you would like to turn into a digital negative. Students may also bring objects that they wish to print with. The fee covers materials, including transparency film, paper and chemistry. This course is held on campus at SVA.
