This course will explore screen printing as it relates to graphic posters. From complex rock posters to iconic political flyers, students will start with learning the fundamentals of the technique and work toward a complete understanding of screen printing. This course will cover a wide range of image-making possibilities that silkscreen has to offer, including hand-drawn separations, photographic techniques such as halftone and posterization, color overprinting, "split fountain" color blends, and more. There will be weekly prompts to generate ideas, but students are encouraged to explore their own concepts and projects. This course is perfect for designers, illustrators, fine artists, and anyone who wants to learn a new technique and meet other creators. No previous printmaking experience is necessary.
Note: Access to the printshop outside of class hours is available to continuing education students enrolled in printmaking courses. Access to the printmaking facilities outside of class hours is as follows: Monday through Friday, from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm and on Saturday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Hours are based on classroom availability. Access will not be available outside these designated open access times. Access to the printshop terminates on the last day of the scheduled course. No access will be granted after this date. This course is held on campus at SVA.
