A variety of monoprint methods resulting in one-of-a-kind prints are explored in this course. Fine artists, illustrators and designers will be encouraged to experiment with and develop painterly, graphic prints through either a single impression or a series of variations. Students will learn a wide range of monoprint techniques, including additive/subtractive, trace positive/inverse, stencil, and object/material hand and press transfer techniques using both black and colored inks. Multilayers, transparent mixing, and "ghost" printing transferred from an unaltered plexiglass matrix will be supported, allowing for infinite possibilities. Previous printmaking experience is not required.
Note: This course is held on campus at SVA.
