In this course students will explore the importance of the actor-director relationship as one of the most fundamental in the filmmaking process. Throughout the semester, students will have in-depth discussions with professional actors on how to create authentic, nuanced and memorable performances on screen. Weekly lectures will examine casting strategies for directors, script analysis, creating characters collaboratively, rehearsal techniques (including improvisation) and how to work with intimate material. During the final weeks of the course, each student will have the opportunity to use their new skills to cast, rehearse and direct a dramatic scene of their choosing for an audience.
