From lifestyle and social media shoots to quick headshots and big studio setups: If you want to become a people photographer today, you need to be prepared to do it all. In this hands-on course we will review the basics-f-stops, shutter speeds, ISO, white balance-and then build your skills with your own lighting equipment and with SVA's high-end lighting gear. We will work with on-camera flash, continuous lighting and studio strobes. We'll explore how to mix lighting on location, and how to use whatever lighting you have available to create the most flattering light. We will work both in the classroom and on location with professional models, and discuss how to direct both "real people" and seasoned models. By the end of this course, you will have the skills to direct all types of people, and work with your own equipment, or rental equipment, on assignment.
PREREQUISITE: Knowledge of how to use your camera (either DSLR or mirrorless) in manual mode.
NOTE: Please bring your camera to the first session, and be prepared to show your work (Instagram, your website, google drive, or shots on a removable drive). This course is held on campus with field trips to various locations around the city.
