This course is designed as a studio exploration of personal creativity in queer media art, supported by theoretical readings and technical instruction. It will provide tools, theoretical grounding, and peer/community support to help each student grow a meaningful personal project that reflects their voice and perspective within queer media arts. Together we will explore art historical precedents, media history, queer and intersectional theory, along with digital tools and techniques. Students will grow the number of theoretical tools in their creative tool belt, while extending or polishing a personal project developed throughout the course. Through rough experimentation, critique, and discussions about queer media art, students will grow their personal projects while simultaneously learning to critically analyze and creatively respond to intersections of identity, technology, and media art.
