3D Animation and Visual Effects majors at SVA are neither idle nor one-dimensional people. Rather, they are highly skilled artists who are adaptable and capable of solving complex visual challenges. This course will help inspire students to learn about the extraordinary field of Computer Animation used in television, on the internet, in video games, and in feature films and 3D animated films.
3D Animated Concepts
Students will gain basic understanding of 3D animation concepts. Concentrating on anatomical movement, students learn to use Autodesk Maya to produce a simple character from concept to model. Students will draw storyboards and translate their drawings into 3D animated segments. Discussions and exercises include key posing, squash and stretch, gesture, timing, arcs, anticipation, exaggeration, walk cycles and facial animation.
Short Animation & Stills
Students will produce their own final project of a short animation and stills of their developed character, body dynamics with editing and sound.
Students interested in this class should have some drawing skill and be interested in enhancing their portfolios.
Please note: Pre-College courses may include the use of nude models. Course curriculum and faculty are subject to change.
