Graphic Design Concepts Students will be introduced to essential ingredients in graphic design: concept, type, color, form and hierarchy will be discussed in detail. Students will design projects, both by hand and on the computer, with these concepts in mind. By the end of the week, students will have completed several projects, including posters, typography and illustrations. Instruction in the basic design tools of the Adobe Creative Cloud will be included.
Three-Dimensional Design This course is all about building a three-dimensional design project. Each student is given the very same object. In previous semesters, objects have included skateboards, chairs and guitars. Each student is also given a word that represents a concept, movement, or idea. The object is then transformed into a 3D sculptural design piece that represents the given word. It's a lot of work, but the results are always fun and exciting! The pieces are displayed in the End of Program Exhibition.
Experimenting and Production Explore a variety of ways of using form and color to create powerful visual communication. Students will experiment with handmade and digital techniques, including collage, drawing, stenciling and typesetting to design posters, T-shirts and tote bags. Our goal is to design and produce engaging and memorable visual communication products. The classroom and computer lab will be transformed into a design and production studio as students experience the complete creative process-from conceptual development through design and final production.
