Fine Arts: Printmaking and Drawing

July 7 - 25 | 3 Undergraduate Studio Credits
Faculty
To be announced
Silkscreen is one of the most versatile and widely used methods of printmaking. Artists from many disciplines will find new ways of expressing their ideas through screen printing, as images can be created using hand-drawn separations and photocopied images. This course will explore its creative possibilities through demonstrations and projects initiated by students. Basic etching techniques will also be included, such as line etching for pen-and-ink effects, drypoint for velvety tonal lines, soft ground for crayon, and aquatint for tones and lift grounds. These techniques can be used individually or in combination with one another to build up an image. Students will develop the skills to proof, edition and curate prints, and will be encouraged to explore the creative possibilities of one-of-a-kind prints. Focusing on the perceptual skills involved in image-making, students will also examine drawing, primarily from direct observation. Projects range from still life to the figure, and will explore the formal elements of art, such as line, space, scale and texture.
Note: Pre-College courses may include the use of nude models. Course curriculum and faculty are subject to change. Water-based silkscreen ink will be used in class, allowing for soap and water cleanup.
