Create art projects exploring a wide variety of drawing and sculptural mediums to make portfolio-quality work. In this course students will learn to draw and sculpt from direct observation as a foundation to develop their creative expression. Conceptual thinking will be applied as students develop project proposals based on individual portfolio goals. Materials include pencil, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic paint, Magic-Sculpt, wire and assemblage, among other drawing and sculpture mediums. Experimental work is encouraged.
The format for this course will include step-by-step demonstrations, group discussions and critique that will encourage the development of vocabulary specific to visual art. Individual instruction and feedback, and lecture presentations of past and contemporary artists are included. The subject matter for inspiration includes figure, nature, animals, imagination and music. The technical processes of art-making will be explored through hands-on projects, and students will analyze the subject and form of artworks. No previous experience is required; instruction is geared toward each student's level of experience. Students will participate in critique sessions.
