MA Curatorial Practice presents a talk with award-winning artist and cultural practitioner Kader Attia on notions of repair, both in terms of physical objects and societies, that help us to reconsider damage, dysfunction and trauma in relation to the ways in which AIs are being deployed now and in the future. To think of AIs as ethical actors rather than simply capitalist ones, and how digital repair might function with this mandate, is the challenging subject Attia addresses in this talk.

MPS Digital Photography presents a talk with fine-art photographer Jeremiah Dine, part of its i3: Images, Ideas, Inspiration lecture series, guest curated by Elizabeth Avedon. Dine’s newest book project is Now is Tomorrow, three volumes of which were published by Understory Books in 2022. Dine’s work is in many public and private collections around the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum, London and the Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Paris.

MA Curatorial Practice Paz Guevara, a curator, researcher and author with an interest in common spaces. Guevara works at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, Germany. Guevara is part of the curatorial ensemble of Archive in Berlin, where she co-curates the yearly program “Publishing Practices.” From 2020 to the present, she has been teaching the theory course Exhibition Histories in the MA spatial strategies program at the Weißensee Kunsthochschule in Berlin.

BFA Visual & Critical Studies and the Honors Program present artist and community organizer Ben Fink to discuss his new edited two-volume series of Appalachian and intercultural grassroots plays, Art in a Democracy: Selected Plays of Roadside Theater, which tells the story of Roadside Theater’s first 45 years and includes nine award-winning original play scripts; 10 essays by authors from different disciplines and generations, which explore the plays’ social, economic and political circumstances; and a critical recounting of the theater’s history from 1975 through 2020.

MPS Digital Photography presents a talk with New York City-based photographer Allison Plass, part of its i3: Images, Ideas, Inspiration lecture series, guest curated by Elizabeth Avedon. Plass received her MA in art history at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she explored issues of gender and representation in European art. In 2020, she completed the advanced track program at the International Center of Photography in New York. Her work has been featured in a number of solo, group and competitive competitions in the U.S., Europe and Australia.

MA Curatorial Practice presents Inga Lāce, current CMAP Central and Eastern Europe Fellow at MoMA. Lāce has been a curator at the Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art since 2012 and was curator of Daiga Grantina’s “Saules Suns” for the Latvian Pavilion at the 2019 Venice Biennale (co-curated with Valentinas Klimašauskas). She is also co-curator of a research and exhibition project, Portable Landscapes.

MFA Computer Arts presents the latest installment of Chair Terrence Masson’s Finding Your Voice discussion series, featuring special guest Scott Ross. Ross is the founder of Digital Domain and former senior vice president of LucasArts Entertainment group where he ran Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). Presently, Scott is the CEO of Virtuosity, a virtual reality startup that offers VR solutions to major brands and studios. Ross will join Masson to discuss his pioneering career in digital entertainment.

Concurrently, BFA Visual & Critical Studies is holding a fundraising book fair. Books will be available for sale on the ground floor and 4th floor of the building.

An annual exhibition of multidisciplinary work by BFA Design and BFA Advertising, an exhibition of thesis project selections from BFA Comics and BFA Illustration, and more fill out the month’s calendar at the School of Visual Arts.
