Established in 1999, the Alumni Scholarship Awards are presented annually to SVA students. “Preparing to graduate from SVA can be both exhilarating and overwhelming,” says Jane Nuzzo, director of Alumni Affairs and Development. “The mounting pressure to hit all of the year-end deadlines, combined with the anticipation of what’s coming next, can be daunting. Receiving an Alumni Scholarship Award instills a belief in students during what can be an uncertain time: the transition from student to working professional. The awards inspire, build confidence in the 11th hour, encourage risk-taking, nurture ambition and help make the seemingly impossible, possible. These scholarships provide significant opportunity, recognition and motivation at crucial moments in our students’ educations and budding careers.”

“Receiving this scholarship means that I can hire someone to help me code the site and I can hire someone as an editor for the articles,” says Bingbing Zhang (MFA Design), whose thesis project, Pollen, is an editorial platform that highlights emerging art, creativity and culture in Chinese and Chinese American communities.

Sixty-seven SVA students have been awarded $52,500 in scholarships for their original projects.
