SVA Watch List: 13 TV Shows and Movies to Binge During Quarantine

During this time of quarantining and social distancing, everyone is looking for a constant stream of content. Thankfully, SVA alumni and faculty have created or contributed to tons of recent TV shows, documentaries and movies that are available to watch right now. So even though you may be away from campus, you can still show support for your fellow SVA community members and entertain yourself, from the comfort of your couch.

Little Fires Everywhere

This miniseries adaptation of the bestselling novel by Celeste Ng was executive-produced and co-directed by Lynn Shelton (MFA 1995 Photography and Related Media) and stars Reese Witherspoon and Kerry Washington. Watch on Hulu.

The Lighthouse

Jarin Blaschke (BFA 2000 Film and Video) received an Academy Award nomination for his cinematography work on Robert Eggers’ art-house thriller, starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson. Watch on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play or Vudu.

The Pharmacist

MFA Social Documentary Film faculty member Ann Collins (MFA 2018 Art Writing) edited this four-part documentary, which covers a bereaved father's efforts to combat the opioid crisis. Watch on Netflix.

Monster Challenge

In this brand new short film by Michael Giacchino (BFA 1990 Film and Video), a hapless Patton Oswalt finds himself catapulted into an outrageous series of challenges in an infectiously silly tribute to the eccentricities of Japanese game shows and monster films. Steven Universe Future

This limited series by Rebecca Sugar (BFA 2009 Animation) acts as an epilogue to the critically acclaimed Cartoon Network series Steven Universe and Steven Universe: The Movie. The final episodes air on Friday, March 27, so catch up on the series for free on

Western Stars

Thom Zimny (BFA 1990 Film and Video) directed this Bruce Springsteen concert film, featuring songs from the musician’s album of the same name. Watch on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play and Vudu.

Dykes, Camera, Action!

The Umbrella Academy

 In case you missed it last year, Netflix adapted the comic-book saga created by Gerard Way (BFA 1999 Cartooning) into a live-action series starring Ellen Page and Mary J. Blige. Watch on Netflix.

Garry Winogrand: All Things Are Photographable

A Little Wisdom

Directed by Yuqi Kang (MFA 2016 Social Documentary Film), this documentary—featuring cinematography by fellow program alumni Amitabh Joshi (2013) and Paola Ochoa (2015)—follows the lives of orphaned boys living in a remote monastery in Nepal. It's available on AmazonGoogle Play and iTunes.

Deadwood: The Movie

The interwoven stories from HBO's acclaimed Western series continue in this two-hour film, directed by Dan Minahan (BFA 1987 Film and Video). Available on HBO, HBO GO and HBO Now.
