For the third year in a row, SVA’s highly anticipated alumni film and animation festival returns to the SVA Theatre. Taking place from September 15 – 18, After School Special 2016 will feature some of the College’s most accomplished film, television, animation and visual effects alumni, and will include screenings, premieres of new work, behind-the-scenes looks at cinema and television hits and classics, special Q&As with industry insiders and more. Here’s a preview of some of the highlights:

Thursday 9/15/16

7:30pm Spring Break Zombie Massacre (2016). A special lead-in to the festival and the New York City red carpet premiere of this new film, followed by a Q&A with director Robert John Carnevale (BFA 2007 Film and Video), cast, and crew. The film stars Sam Suchmann and Mattie Zufelt, best friends who met at the Special Olympics, who together wrote the most epic zombie movie ever! Click here to RSVP.

Saturday 9/17/16

2:00pm The Peanuts Movie (2015). Bring the whole family and join Blue Sky Studios artists and animators Allison Botkin (MFA 2014 Computer Art), Sabine Heller (MFA 2006 Computer Art), JP Lavin (BFA 2012 Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects), Alen Lai (MFA 2000 Computer Art) and Raymond Ross (BFA 2004 Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects) as they present the hit film on the big screen in 3D. 5:00pm Live From New York! (2015). Join director Bao Nguyen, cinematographer Caleb Heller and co-editor David Osit (MFA 2011 Social Documentary) for a screening of this widely-praised documentary about Saturday Night Live, which opened the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. 8:00pm Deadpool (2016). Join visual effects artists John Brennick (BFA 2004 Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects) and Nitant Karnik (BFA 2005 Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects) for a screening and inside look at this Marvel Entertainment blockbuster. Sunday 9/18/16

2:00pm 25th Anniversary Screening of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast (1991). Be our guest for this special screening of the treasured musical and join renowned animator Tom Sito (BFA 1977 Animation) live via Skype for a special conversation following the film. Preceded by the animated short Taking the Plunge by Thaddaeus Andreades, Elizabeth Ku-Herrero, Nicholas Manfredi, and Marie Raoult (BFA 2015 Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects alumni). 8:00pm The 68th Annual Emmy Awards. Come watch the show, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and broadcast via ABC live on the big screen, and root on SVA alumni nominees and their nominated shows! Click here to RSVP.
