SVA Student Health and Counseling Services presents “Doing and Making Are Acts of Hope,” the annual HOPE Art Competition exhibition of artwork created by SVA students. The artworks by 13 finalists selected from 53 submissions will be on view at the SVA Flatiron Gallery Windows Saturday, February 22, through Tuesday, March 4th, 2025. At a gallery reception on Thursday, February 27th, from 4:30 to 6:00 pm, the Grand Prize Winner and Fan Favorite Prize will be announced.

For this year’s edition, students were invited to reflect upon artist, designer, educator, and social justice advocate Corita Kent’s words: “Doing and making are acts of hope. And as that hope grows, we stop feeling overwhelmed by the troubles of the world. We remember that we - individuals and groups - can do something about those troubles.” Students were asked to create art that embodied the spirit of the quote and illustrated the power of self-expression to facilitate and foster hope.

Featured artists include Mia Moore (freshman BFA, Illustration), Donghoon Yi (sophomore, BFA Design), Renny Wang (sophomore, BFA Illustration), Elizaveta Simonova (sophomore, BFA Illustration), and more.
