SVA will present “Still Moving: Before the Final Frames,” an exhibition of printed artworks by 30 student artists from BFA Animation and BFA 3D Animation and Visual Effects, curated by Patrick Skelton, BFA 3D Animation and Visual Effects faculty member, and Nick Piscitelli, BFA Animation faculty and department coordinator. The exhibition will be on view Saturday, April 12 through Monday, May 19 at the SVA Flatiron Windows, 133 W 21 Street, New York City.

“Still Moving: Before the Final Frames” brings the unseen layers of both 2D and 3D animation into focus and celebrates the intricacies of their production. These behind-the-scenes steps shape the final product but are rarely seen by audiences and demonstrate that animation is more than just its polished final frames—it is an evolving, collaborative art form that requires many skilled hands over many stages of production. “Still Moving: Before the Final Frames” offers a glimpse into this hidden artistry, inviting viewers to appreciate animation not just as a finished product but as a dynamic creative journey.

Artists featured in this exhibition are current BFA 3D Animation and Visual Effects students: Nishani Dahoma, Megan Faller, Hayden Glover, Ellie Hui, Sana Kakumanu, Dohee Kim, River Seokhee Kim, Serena Kim, Jin Lee, Dike Liu, Natalie Lo, Anna Volkova and Gillian Zarate; BFA Animation students: Schantelle Alonzo, Aubrey Azmar, Erim Cetinel, Gracie Eastridge, Dave Galarza, Eli Huang, Teo Nalani, Justin Lam, Mirabelle Lapenna, Ted Li, Jasmine Lin, Quella Marie Samante, Micah Sanders, Shelley Wang, Eni Xu, Laura Yeh and Xiafu Zhu.

The BFA Animation program’s creative environment allows students to use the art form of 2D animation and imagination to tell stories with a unique vision, style and intent. Students in the program are challenged to be curious and open to collaboration and experimentation, while following the high standards of academic performance and professionalism. The curriculum—taught by industry professionals—covers all aspects of the production pipeline, from ideation to completion including creating, directing and producing individually and collaboratively.

BFA 3D Animation and Visual Effects students have access to the most advanced applications and are guided by faculty at the top of their fields to develop the capabilities necessary to succeed in highly competitive creative industries. Using a production-based curriculum, students create portfolios and gain the experience necessary to launch them into professional careers of their own design or at many of the top digital agencies, animation studios and visual effects houses around the world working in the fields of commercial film, television and video game production.

The SVA Flatiron Gallery is open to the public Monday through Saturday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm., and closed on Sundays and Mondays. SVA Flatiron Windows is viewable from the sidewalk and accessible by wheelchair.
