School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “In and Out of Time,” an exhibition of work by 31 BFA Fine Arts students and alumni. Curated by BFA Fine Arts Chair Suzanne Anker, the exhibition will be on view from Thursday, October 21, through Friday, November 5, at the SVA Chelsea Gallery, 601 West 26th Street, 15th floor, New York City.
“In and Out of Time” brings together works in a variety of mediums: painting, drawing, sculpture and video installation. Ranging in ideas drawn from popular culture, formalism, identity politics and even death, these works address the spirit of our time.
In our global perception, time can be approached as an invisible geography of duration. Is time a dreamscape? Is it living breadth? Is it a repository of historical events? This exhibition, the first “live” exhibition in “real” time since reopening the SVA BFA Fine Arts Department, is a peek into the time we were dispersed as fine-arts students.
Featured student-artists are Zack Beitel, Zane Bohnert, Chris Cortez, Bryan Fernández, Aden Hardin, Miley Huang, Emily Hwang, G.D. (George) Johnson, MaaKasam (Mithila Malaviya), Symia McKellar, Joel Murff, Vishva Patel, Lexi Paulino, Paolo Pomarico, Allison Prezioso, Fatou Ridgird, Rosie Santini, Avery Mei Skillin, Nathalie Slowak, Byron (Lupo) Smith, Salma Soliman, Heaven Weathersby, Yuyan Yang, Ying Zhang, Yiran Zhang and Sining Zhu; and alumni Srishti Dass, Darius Dyson, Lanyi Gao, Antonia-Marie Kim and Farwah Rizvi.
The SVA Chelsea Gallery is open Monday through Friday, from 9:00am to 5:00pm, and closed on Saturdays and Sundays. Public access to the SVA Chelsea Gallery is permitted during gallery hours if visitors show proof of vaccination (FDA/WHO-authorized) and photo ID, wear a mask and provide their contact-tracing details. It is fully accessible by wheelchair.
