School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “ILLO/COMX Preview,” an exhibition of highlights by 125 BFA Illustration and BFA Comics graduates from the class of 2023, curated by department chair Viktor Koen. The exhibition will be on view from Wednesday, September 6, through Monday, October 2, at the SVA Gramercy Gallery, 209 East 23rd Street, New York City.
“ILLO and COMX Preview” showcases the upcoming BFA Illustration and BFA Comics year-end publication, which features some of the best senior pictorial and storytelling accomplishments from the programs’ most recent graduates, as well as conversations between esteemed faculty and alumni, and thought-provoking industry essays from industry luminaries.
“Learning is lifelong, and the likelihood that artists will ever create work that matches their own expectations of themselves is very slim,” says BFA Illustration Coordinator, Kelsey Short. “Rather than plateau, we could think of creating as a marathon against ourselves, and once the race is over we can immediately start training for the next. The students represented in this show have just completed their first race with brilliant results.”
Esteemed senior faculty from the exhibiting departments includes Josh Bayer, Nicholas Bertozzi, Steve Brodner, Joshua Cochran, Jensine Eckwall, Lisk Feng, Viktor Koen, Cecilia Ruiz Lopez, Anthony Macbain, Marvin Mattelson, Lily Padula, David Roman, Matthew Rota, Doug Salati, Yuko Shimizu, Vesper Stamper, Sarah Vaccariello and Sam Weber.
The SVA Gramercy Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00am–6:00pm. Masks are encouraged but not required.
