School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Becoming 2023,” an annual exhibition of visual conversations featuring the work of eight BFA Photography and Video students from the class of 2025 prompted by the work of eight distinguished program alumni. “Becoming 2023” will be on view from Wednesday, November 8, through Monday, November 27, 2023, at the SVA Gramercy Gallery, 209 East 23rd Street, New York City. There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, from 5:30 – 7:30pm.

For this year’s iteration of “Becoming,” third-year BFA Photography and Video students were paired with alumni included in the program’s inaugural alumni poster series and asked to consider their body of work. Those eight alumni posters are on view in tandem with the students’ visual responses to them, inviting visitors to find connections between generations of BFA Photography and Video pupils.

The alumni participants are Jeremy Cohen (2014), Bon Duke (2009), Ina Jang (2010), Carlos Jaramillo (2015), Molly Matalon (2014), Jessica Pettway (2016), Caroline Tompkins (2014), and An Rong Xu (2012). The participating class of 2025 students are Claudia Helms, Yeeun Joo, Yinong Li, Abigail Mikami, Alexia Haick, Jack Sirianni, Yu-Shan Sammi Wei and John Yuhas.

The SVA Gramercy Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00am to 6:00pm. Masks are encouraged but not required.
