School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents "Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects Senior Thesis Projects: Out of the Box, On the Box," an exhibition of work by students in the BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects Department. Curated by faculty member Adam Meyers, the exhibition will be on view April 28 - May 19 at the Westside Gallery, 133/141 West 21 Street, New York City.
"The ability to convince and entertain with computer-generated imagery has become an essential tool of the moving image arts," explains Department Chair John McIntosh. "To represent these exceptional artistic enterprises with a single image is tantamount to representing a painting with a single brush stroke or a poem by extracting one word. While the curatorial obligation is to edit, aesthetically it can serve only to encourage the viewer to look further and to view not only a single frame but also the entire project."
Junior and senior student portfolios will also be on view during the exhibition reception on Wednesday, May 2 on the 3rd floor of 133/141 West 21 Street. Students will be present at Portfolio Night to discuss their work with visitors.
"ENCORE!," a screening of thesis projects, will take place at the SVA Theatre, 333 West 23 Street, on Friday, May 11 beginning at 5pm.
The Westside Gallery, located at 133/141 West 21 Street between 6th and 7th Avenues, is open Monday through Friday, 9am to 7pm, and Saturday, 10am to 6pm; closed on Sundays and public holidays. The gallery is accessible by wheelchair. For more information, please call 212.592.2145.
Students in the BFA Computer Art, Computer Animation and Visual Effects Department at SVA are given the technical skills necessary to enter a successful career in film, television, commercial and video-game productions. They have access to the most advanced digital applications and are guided to develop both the personal and professional capabilities expected in the top tiers of highly competitive creative industries.
