The MPS Fashion Photography Department at the School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Cretaceous Returns,” an exhibition of multimedia work by SVA alumni Pamela Reed and Matthew Rader, the genre-defying New York-based creative duo known as Reed + Rader. An experiment in modern technology applied to prehistoric environments. “Cretaceous Returns” will be on view from December 1 -19 at the Visual Arts Gallery, 601 West 26 Street, 15th floor, New York City. Admission is free and open to the public.

According to the artists, “Cretaceous Returns is a peek into the prehistoric underbelly of dino-daddies Pamela Reed and Matthew Rader. The wonders of modern digital technology have made possible the chance to enter prehistoric environments with dinosaurs. When visitors enter the space we want them to take an adventure back to the dinosaur times and enter a tropical jungle filled with tall grass and foliage. There are multiple mediums that make up ‘Cretaceous Returns’: GIF animations showing different characters, a video of colorful dinosaurs dancing to dubstep, a side-scrolling video game-like adventure to explore and meet new friends, and an interactive chance to become a prehistoric beast.”

Reed + Rader produce innovative digital art that blends photography, video, animation, illustration, installation, and graphic and 3D design. Pamela Reed and Matthew Rader met while attending the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and furthered their education at the School of Visual Arts, where they earned a BFA in Photography in 2007, and at NYU’s Interactive Telecommunications Program. Their clients include V magazine, V Man, Dazed & Confused, AnOther Magazine, Muse, Pop, Vs., Tokion FACTORY, Vice, Motilo, Cut + Run, SSENSE, Cynthia Rowley, Ashleigh Verrier, Victoria’s Secret, and Beck’s Green Box Project.

The MPS in Fashion Photography is an intensive one-year degree program offering practicing photographers the opportunity to advance their bodies of work under the guidance of photographers, editors, creative directors and digital retouchers working at the forefront of fashion today. Bridging the gap between “high” and “low” culture, commercial and fine art photography, still and moving images, the program is dedicated to exploiting the full potential of fashion photography as a platform for invention.
