School of Visual Arts and BFA Photography and Video present “BeCoMiNg,” an exhibition based on picture conversations between distinguished program alumni and students in its class of 2020. This collaborative exhibition, curated by Department Chair Joseph Maida began with Maida’s invitation to 12 alumni, whom he paired with 12 students based on formal and conceptual intersections. Each graduate provided their student partner with a picture prompt, to which the student responded with one of their own pictures; in turn, each student provided their partner with a picture prompt, to which the graduate responded with one of their own pictures. The exhibition consists of 24 picture pairings on view from Saturday, November 10, through Saturday, December 1, at the SVA Gramercy Gallery, 209 East 23rd Street, New York City.



The participating alumni artists are Claire Christerson (2015), Dana Davenport (2015), Michael Bailey Gates (2015), Ryan Halliwill (2016), Logan Jackson (2015), Ina Jang (2010), May Lin Le Goff (2012), Peter Ash Lee (2008), Thomas McCarty (2016), Star Montana (2013), Corey Olsen (2014) and An Rong Xu (2012)

The participating class of 2020 students are Sol Chocano, Caitlyn Duffy, Amina Gingold, Natalie Grant, Won Young Ki, Kat Kuo, Tiger Ling, Eugenia So, Sam Stoich, Anthony Tella, Xiao Xiong and Rosalie Zack.



BFA Photography and Video provides a world-class education through a focus on fluency in all forms of photographic imagery and direct involvement with the professional community. The program’s forward-thinking curriculum emphasizes how still pictures and moving images have operated over history and their leading role in culture and society today.
