MFA Art Practice presents "Failed State," a virtual exhibition of works by first year MFA candidates, produced in class under the guidance of the program's summer 2020 digital artist-in-residence, Katya Grokhovsky. Featuring the works of Maya Ballen, Christianne Ebel, Theodora Eliezer, Lisa Lee Freeman, Maria Dolores Gregori Fuster, Fei Jia, India Lombardi-Bello, Sarah Martin, Brenda McGee and Juliet Walzer, as well as Grokhovsky’s project in progress, Postcards from America, and her collaborative initiative, School of Low Expectations (SLE), the exhibition explores the notion of the failing construct of the American dream and capitalist system overall. Prioritizing process and experimentation within a multitude of mediums, genres, visions and concepts and the home- and hand-made, whilst analyzing the meaning of an artist-citizen today, "Failed State" initiates an open-ended discourse around the changing landscape of art- and exhibition-making and the future of our world at large, at this time of a major global crisis.

The exhibition will launch on Friday, July 31, at failedstate.sva.edu, with a launch party on Zoom from 6:00 – 8:00pm ET. Pre-registration for the launch party is required; do so here.

Free and open to the public
