David Cade uses classic studio photography in Jouissance, a French term described as the compulsion to exceed the prohibitions imposed on one’s enjoyment, in search of even greater pleasure. By elevating transgender individuals to the status of Vargas Girls, Cade is validating their individual expression of gender and sexuality—their jouissance.
