136 West 21st Street, New York, NY 10011MPS Digital Photography presents a talk with Ellen Wallenstein: photographer, book artist, and retired art professor living in Sherman, Connecticut. Wallenstein works in several mediums including photography, drawing, and collage. Her current work has been concentrated on the making of daily cyanotype images on cloth.
Wallenstein grew up in New York City and attended public schools. She earned a BA in Art History from Stony Brook University and an MFA in Photography from Pratt Institute. Her long teaching career includes academic positions at the University of Texas at Austin, Pratt Institute, and the School of Visual Arts. A New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Fellow in Photography, her work has been nominated for the Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Magazine Photography and the Santa Fe Prize.
Wallenstein’s photographs, books, and ‘zines are in various public and private collections and have been exhibited internationally. Other professional experiences include artist-in-residence, photo archivist, curator, writer, and tarot card reader. She currently exhibits her artwork at the Carter Burden Gallery in New York City.
Starting in 2011 and after over 200 lectures, the i3: Images, Ideas, Inspiration Lecture series continues to feature leading photographers, artists, editors, gallerists and industry experts. The fall 2024 i3 Lecture season is curated and hosted by MPS Digital Photography faculty member Julie Grahame. Most past lectures are available on YouTube and Vimeo.
