i3 Photo Lecture: Evan Hume

Project Oxcart (A-12), 2021, from “Viewing Distance”
MPS Digital Photography presents a talk with Evan Hume, an artist and educator based in Ames, Iowa, where he is assistant professor of photography at Iowa State University. Hume earned his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and his MFA from George Washington University. Raised in the Washington, DC area, Hume’s approach to photography is informed by the experience of living in the nation’s political center for much of his life and focuses on the medium’s use as an instrument of the military-industrial complex. Recent exhibitions include a solo show at Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX) and group shows at Filter Space (Chicago, IL), Fotografiska (New York, NY) and Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington (Arlington, VA). Hume’s work has been featured by publications such as Aperture and Der Greif and was included in the Museum of Contemporary Photography’s Midwest Photographers Project. His first monograph, Viewing Distance, was published by Daylight Books in 2021.
The i3: Images, Ideas, Inspiration lecture series has returned to in-person events. The series continues to feature leading photographers, artists, editors, gallerists and industry experts. This summer, Daylight co-founder Michael Itkoff is the guest curator and host.
Registration is required; the event location will be given to all registrants. All attendees must observe SVA COVID-19 protocols while on campus, presenting proof of vaccination (plus booster, if applicable) upon request.
