In concurrence with open studios on Thursday, April 27, BFA Visual & Critical Studies presents “Intimate Documents,” a show by graduating seniors, classified 2023, as it were. Curated by Suzanne Joelson, the exhibition opens Monday, April 24, with a celebration on Thursday, April 27, and remains open through Wednesday, May 3.

Usually, the graduating seniors reveal an array of urges and temperaments. There is often work relating to political, psychological and social issues as well as art history. This year, as diverse as the individuals appear, kiarita, Selena Lin, Jeans O'Donnel, Inna Smolina and Bella Ybarra share an inclination to personal reflection and storytelling. Introspection has overcome activism.

This is the class that came to school in 2019, rose to the possibilities and then never returned after spring break. Their new vista gave way to an all too familiar—and smaller—space as the pandemic spread fear and promoted isolation.

The sudden turn inward has had lasting effects, one result of which is a heightened acuity of interpersonal yearning and skill. There is an affinity among them, fragile, tender, EBULLIENT.

The Flatiron Project Space is open Monday through Sunday, 10:00am to 6:00pm, to all SVA students, faculty and staff.

The public may visit by showing proof of full vaccination (including booster, if eligible) and photo ID. All visitors to the SVA Flatiron Gallery must pre-register through eventbrite no less than 48 hours prior to the selected event date and time.
