School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Topologies of Consumption,” an exhibition of works by six students selected by a jury of their peers. Organized by SVA Galleries, “Topologies of Consumption” will be on view from Wednesday, August 8 through Monday, August 28, at the SVA Flatiron Gallery, 141/133 West 21st Street, New York City.

Through potent imagery in painting, sculpture and video, the artists in this exhibition explore the myriad impacts of human consumption and environmental extraction, illuminating the relationships humans have with technology, the natural world and each other. Themes of climate, consumerism, desire and animal welfare urge collective responsibility for the repercussions of our consumption-driven culture.

Participating artists include Xuan Chen (BFA Illustration), Velma Ma (BFA Fine Arts), Alison Pasquini (MFA Art Practice), Jessica Reisch (MFA Computer Arts), YuHsuan Teng (MFA Computer Arts) and Jen Yoon (MFA Illustration as Visual Essay).

Juried exhibitions are a way for SVA students to recognize the achievements of their most distinguished classmates. Artists are selected from a large pool of applicants to the annual SVAGalleries call for entries, whose submissions undergo a rigorous examination of presented materials, including documentation of work and artist statements.

The SVA Flatiron Gallery and Flatiron Windows are open Monday through Saturday, from 10:00am–6:00pm. SVA Flatiron Windows is viewable from the sidewalk and accessible by wheelchair. Masks are encouraged but not required.
