School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “Around and Again,” an exhibition of multimedia work by seven SVA students and recent alumni selected by a jury of their peers. The exhibition will be on view from Wednesday, August 7, through Thursday, September 5, at the SVA Flatiron Gallery, 133/141 West 21 Street, New York City.

The artwork in “Around and Again” explores how societal expectations shape people’s lives. Some of these influences include gender roles, family expectations, grieving and the loss of play and curiosity as one grows up. The exhibition features a range of forms, including illustration, painting, photography, printmaking and sculpture. From paintings influenced by the digital workspace to cultural embroidery techniques used to challenge labels, these works evade easy categorization. Though these artworks use traditional methods, their compositions reflect contemporary sensibilities. The tension of personal development runs throughout, pushing within and beyond constraints, generating sparks of insight through deliberate friction. This work invites viewers to question their own interwoven experiences and where those threads originate.

Artists featured in this exhibition include Valentina Berdegue (BFA 2024 Illustration), Yiran Cui (Tsui) (BFA 2024 Illustration), Kaiyu Dong (BFA Photography and Video), Jessica Kingswell (BFA 2024 Illustration), Zhenyu Pan (BFA 2024 Illustration), Barbara H Pszeniczna (BFA Illustration), and David Steindl (BFA 2024 Fine Arts).

The SVA Flatiron Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00am–6:00pm.
