School of Visual Arts (SVA) presents “RISK,” an exhibition of work by students in the MAT Art Education Department. The exhibition is curated by department chair Rose Viggiano, the exhibition will be on view June 23 - July 21 at the Westside Gallery, 133/141 West 21st Street, New York City.

“Given the economic and environmental issues students face as they complete their education and embark into the world, it comes as no surprise that our graduates have chose the theme of RISK for their final exhibition,” says Rose Viggiano. “This exhibition reflects upon the various ways in which RISK can manifest, including the physical, the emotional and the spiritual.”

The exhibition includes work by Theresa Burke, Evie Elman, Lisa Errera, Kevin Farrell, Heather Heckel, Jennifer Hedrich, Hualin Gu, Phylicia Haberman, Yangjoo Kim, Valentina Lopez de Haro, Alexandra Mercado, Jeffrey Novick, Sara Rosenzweig, Carrie Shiffrin, Joshua Smaller-Swift, Alder Suttles, Kathryn Thiel, Denise Vargas and Allison Wolf.

The MAT Art Education Department provides a hands-on learning environment where student teachers research and explore educational issues and topics while continuing to make art. Course work relates directly to fieldwork and student teaching through discussion of course development, classroom management and age-appropriate application of educational theory.
