This body of work represents a reflection of transcendentalist sentiments inspired by Henry David Thoreau’s Walden. With a contemporary spin, the connection between Thoreau’s philosophies and a personal experience of intentional solitude during social distancing as seen in the coronavirus era are explored.
During quarantine I found myself in similar circumstances to the famed author: living alone with the exception of occasional visits, having no means of transportation, and my place of residence: a quiet lake in a rural part of New England. I engaged with romantic aesthetics to capture the resilience of nature, the resilience of humans in the face of solitude, and ultimately capture life as the resilience to humanity.
